That's not exactly true in all situations.
  My elementary school is a neighborhood school and the playground is the only "park"in the area, therefore, we often go to recess and have parents out there with small children.  They have a deal with the city of Austin not to fence it in as with many large urban schools.  My kids don't ask to go to recess...they ask to go to the "park".  
  Anyway, you'd have to talk to the school principal, who might also have you talk to the local police.  We also have a deal with the local PD to try to prevent the gangs from meeting up there.

While leaving fighter practice tonight (yes, I was wimp--I decided 
that given a choice between fighting on wet/muddy grass and fighting 
on wet concrete, I'd rather not do either, which is a pity, because 
the tourney sounded like a lot of fun.)

Anyway... I noticed that the school at the corner of Maplewood and 38 
1/2 street has a fairly large covered area next to the parking lot. 
That might be another rainout option.
