The Yule revel is Bryn Gwlad's annual "holiday party". It usually
incorporates a pot-luck feast, some form of live music, and lots of
laughter and good fellowship, and is a very relaxed, low-key event.
This year's revel will be held on Saturday, December 15th, at the
recreation hall in Buescher State Park
<www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/buescher>. Contact the
event steward, Señora Damiana Gutierrez de Castilla (who happens to be
our Hospitaler <http://bryn-gwlad.ansteorra.org/officers.php>), for
more information.

As those of you who are loyal readers of the "It Cometh in the Mail"
already know, this year's Yule revel will incorporate a children's gift
exchange, which will be run just as those of the last four years were.
To wit:

Anyone under the age of 18 who will be present at the Yule revel may
participate.

If you'd like your child to take part, you must register no later than
October 31st. You may use the webform at
<http://b-b-fam.home.texas.net/YuleKids/>, e-mail the child's name,
age, and gender and contact information for yourself directly to me, or
give me that information at Populace in the Park or the October
business meeting. I recommend you also offer some pointers for your
opposite number, like your child's favorite color, persona period (if
she has one), what S.C.A. activities interest her (e.g., fighting,
embroidery, or heraldry), or general plaything preferences (e.g.,
"likes to read", "loves dressing up", or "thinks everything should have
wheels").

The first week of November, each child's parents will be given the
name, age, and gender of the child for whom theirs is to bring a gift
to the event. This will allow them a full month to find or make a
plausibly medieval gift, spending no more than $10.

If you have any questions about the exchange or need pointers to
information on or sources for medieval playthings, visit the webform
and click on "my page of tips and resources" or contact me directly.
My e-mail address is below, and I almost always attend Populace in the
Park, where I usually spread a gray blanket under a small tree near the
practice fields.
