[Bryn-gwlad] Ancient Board Games - British Museum Press (fwd)

Gluckhaus is a board/gambling game that lends itself to artistic creativity.
Based on my research, the boards were elaborated decorated based on themes.
You need at least 9 spaces on the board but can have as many as 12 depending
on how you want to decorate it.

You have spaces for 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, and 11 that are big enough to hold
one piece of loot. You need a larger space for 7 because that is the "pot"
that builds. When you roll a 2, you clear the board of all loot except for
the "pot". If you roll a 4 you either lose a turn or some other penalty. If
you roll a 12, you take everything on the table. To make the game more user
friendly, you can create spaces for 2, 4, and 12 that explain what to do if
you roll that number but since you don't need to put anything on the spots,
they aren't required.

You can do a 12 days of Christmas theme, a Tudor Theme, a tarot theme, or
whatever theme takes your fancy to decorate the board and the spaces. I have
one that has cats dressed up in slightly post period clothing using tarot
cards.

I like the game because it is fun and easy to play, doesn't take a lot of
concentration so you can socialize easily while playing, and the limit on
people who can play is based on how many you can gather around the board.
You can get quite a crowd around it and the jibes back and forth can be
quite fun!

If you must play, decide on three things at the start: the rules of the
game, the stakes, and the quitting time.
