Goldweard,

Though your idea has merit, it does not take into consideration the months that we have large events planned (Candlemas, Lysts, Baronial), traditional revels planned (Land Court, Yule, Fool's Revel, Wells Branch Demo), Kingdom level interest events (Kingdom A&S, Laurel's Prize, Queen's Champion, Crown Tourney, Coronation (King's Champion), Gulf Wars (as well as Pennsic, Estrella & Lillies) and holidays. These are all outside influences that effect the current Tiny Tourney Schedule that we already have in place.

Not to mention, Tuesday night is our Barony's Fighter Practice. It belonged to the fighters before it became Populace in the Park and we should respect that and not drown it in other activities. The Fighters do not show up at dance guild or herbalist guild and expect them to set aside their activities for fighting. We already have classes, meetings and other activities at FP/PiP and that is working fine. We have announcements, fellowship and snacks and that is fine as well. We even have the A&S Tiny Tourneys, which have always been fine as well. Nine A&S Tiny Tourneys at FP/PiP is asking bit much of the Fighters and the Barony.

If you have an idea or a desire to host an activity, please use protocol and go to the Baronial Officer in charge of that activity and discuss it with them. Since the Tiny Tourney's are hosted by the Baron, it would have been nice to ask Him first if He could commit to such a schedule, not to mention the prizes, judges, marshals, etc. each Tourney would require.

There is also something to be said about burn-out. The Barony didn't have enough people to fill our volunteer schedule at Baronial. It has become obvious people need a break and a breather. Plus it really is not feasible to commit to a set in stone or even set in sand schedule for Tiny Tourney's for an entire year. We need to be fluid with them due to the multiple factors that can effect them, including weather.

However, please do feel free to have your dessert challenge, I think the Barony will really enjoy it and are looking for to it. It is also something that you can conduct without the necessity of others making a commitment to it. You don't need marshals, the populace can be the judges, and you are apparently providing the prize.

Working on the idea of the golden spatula has really
gotten me thinking (Run, hide yourself and your
children). I think that beginning next year we should
consider having monthly Tiny Tourneys. What I was
thinking is a schedule like this

January, May, September - Martial Arts
February, June, October - Bardic arts
March, July, November - Culinary Arts
April, August, December - Static Arts

These would occur on either the first or second
Tuesday of the month. This would provide the
following benefits

1. We get a chance to have a small local event where
we can get into persona and period clothing (I'll let
you call it what you will). especially since some of
us cannot attend local or regional events on a regular
basis.

2. It allows those individuals, interested in
learning to autocrat events, a chance to get their
feet wet. The structure and times are already in
place. They just need to come up with a theme for the
event. This is a great option for those who wish to
autocrat, but get scared off that they might screw up
some big event.

3. It allows us the chance to show some of our
current projects we are working on. Get feedback.
And help each other improve our competition entries
for the larger events.

4. It provides a chance for those spectators who come
to PIP the ability to see that we are more than just
a bunch of people who get in armor and hit each other
with sticks.

5. Any excuse for a party...

I unfortunately will not be able to attend business
meetings until January as my Master Naturalist classes
occur every Monday until mid December. I am
therefore posting this here, so that it can be
discussed and then presented at the next business
meeting.
