Yes, you are absolutely right. I tend to obsess over everything (are my
stitches the right length, and my seam allowances small enough?)
I understand that most people don't care about this as much as I do, and I
am (usually) fine with it. I hope that I never turn into that mean person
who goes on about how your outfit was machine sewn with polyester thread.
I think it's important to know and understand what was done in period so
that we can make educated choices about our compromises.
I have decided for myself that I will accept anyone's attempt at pre-17th
cent clothes as good enough, and if they want to be more authentic and ask
me, I will do what I can to point them in the right direction. If they have
no desire to be more authentic, I will deal with that too (even if I keep
hoping they will change their mind).
But, you must remember, that if you ask for help or opinions, you can not
get offended when that is what you get.
