For some reason that reminded me, Long ago I did a A&S class on
Basic leather working techniques, with a focus on making your own
leather pouch.

I know we have a lot of new comers again, I'd be willing to recreate
this and do It again.

I could probably whip on up on making your own belt, but it'd be a
really short one.

That is of course if some of the new folks are interested in makgin
their own leather pouches from one
Of a few representative periods/cultures (one early, one mid, one late).

Subject: [Bryn-gwlad] custom beads for Candlemas

We were at the Hobby Lobby at 8000 Research Blvd.
<http://www.hobbylobby.com/site3/store/astore.cfm?store=45> a couple of

days ago, and saw there the Fireworks Beginner's Beadmaking Kit
<http://www.diamondtechglass.com/index.cfm?
page=itemView&itemsysid=194149>, selling for $100.  It's also available

through a number of online vendors for roughly the same price.

The kit contains everything you need to get started with lampwork, the
technique by which the Norse and others made glass beads during the
time around which our upcoming Candlemas event is themed
<http://www.vikinganswerlady.com/vikbeads.shtml> (though of course they

didn't use gas-powered torches). Lampwork is one of those super-cool
skills I wouldn't have thought one could even begin to explore without
investing a great deal more money than that, and I thought others might

also be pleasantly surprised at how affordable the kit is. Hobby Lobby

also had additional glass rods and a few individual tools and
components from the kit (like torches).

It seems like this might also be a good time to mention that a member
of our populace, Zacharria Inez Balzan, has just been given a Sable
Thistle in lampwork. I believe the lady has an infant, so she might
not be available to teach a class. But, on the other hand, it's
possible that if some enterprising soul found her a place to work and a

few students with their own supplies (or enough supplies to share), she

would be willing to do a workshop on making beads that resemble some of

those from the relevant period
