Hi,

Just a bit of trivia about linen and cotton. The reason linen feels cooler
is because of the way it handles moisture. Linen wicks it away from your
body, allowing it to evaporate. Cotton absorbs it, and creates a seal, not
allowing air to flow and evaporate the moisture. This is why linen is good
for clothes and bad for tents, and why Cotton is so fabulous for tents but
bad for clothes.

I agree, cotton is much more comfortable than any synthetic, but for Texas,
and meeting the armor requirements, I would recommend all layers are made of
linen if you can afford it.
