Important subtlety...
Rattan is sized by average diameter... so 1-1/4' is +-1/8"
For weapons you are going to tape this is fine, as the tape makes up the difference.
For weapons you are not going to tape.. You want 1-3/8" rattan to be sure there are no sections that fail the rules.
If you are going to sand and stain the poleshafts (which looks awesome)
You'd need thicker again.

Subject: [Bryn-gwlad] Rattan orders
Salut cozyns,
I've been thinking about getting a rattan order together. I actually have two goals in mind:
First, I would like some longer pieces to make polearms. These will require some 1.25" poles. I can get 9' poles for $13.50 apiece at Frank's Cane and Rush, but shipping and total number of sticks ordered will determine the overall per pole price. I'm guessing $16.
Second, I want to put together some siloflex-sheathed swords. This requires 1" poles and a quantity of siloflex. I've checked all the local sources, and no one currently stocks the straight siloflex pipes. So, unless anyone can find smaller (preferably straight) pieces, I'll need to buy a coil at Lowe's (100' for $42.00).
Two questions, then:
1) Who wants rattan (standard, 1.25" diameter, 9' poles)?
2) Who wants rattan and siloflex for siloflex swords? These tend to be slightly lighter in weight, last six times as long, and sting a bit when they hit unarmored spots.
Let me know, and I can start putting an order together. Also, if anyone else was already putting an order together, let me know.
Merces.
En Lyonel
