We stopped by Jerry's Artarama (6010 N IH-35, in Austin--right next to
the highway, about a block from Airport) last weekend, and I saw there
some very interesting paints, hand-mixed from natural pigments in a
linseed oil base with no modern additives. The brand was Williamsburg
Oil Paints, and prices ranged fom $9 to $43 per tube. A little poking
around revealed the manufacturer's website, at
<http://www.williamsburgoilpaint.bizland.com/index.htm>.
I'm sure the more experienced fine artists among us are familiar with
these paints, but I'd never seen them before. I thought there might be
others in the barony who would be interested to hear that ready-mixed
period-style paints were available in the area.
