Yep. I believe this was my third event in the SCA. (Yule, Candlemas,  
Mustache War).  The camp was roughly divided into two areas, Bryn  
Gwlad, and probably its supporters, and Steppes, and probably its  
supporters. Being new to the SCA, I wandered over Friday night to the  
Steppes encampment to  see if I could met some folks from outside my  
local area.  I got turned away at the gate because I was the "enemy".

Now a days, I would just keep walking past the guards, and if they  
insisted, find another way into the camp or hail someone I recognized  
(or not) and ask if I could enter the camp. That was then, though and  
not today.
