This is the fourth Thursday of the month, and therefore the regularly
scheduled date for the barony's heraldic commentary meeting. Since our
good herald recently wrote the list to say she's having major e-mail
trouble, I thought I'd send out a reminder.

If you're not sure what "heraldic commentary" is, allow me to elucidate:

When you submit a name or a piece of armory for registration with the
S.C.A. College of Arms, information about your submission is printed in
the Ansteorran Internal Letter of Intent, which is then distributed
(both independently and as part of the Ansteorran Gazette, the
kingdom's heraldry newsletter) to heralds all over the kingdom. They
have a month or two to send comments on it to the folks who make
kingdom-level decisions. Those folk then meet to discuss all the
comments and their own observations and decide whether your submission
meets all the necessary standards to be sent on to Laurel for a final
"yea" or "nay".

Bryn Gwlad's heraldic commentary meetings are a local tradition. The
submitted items for the month are discussed and comments are collected
by the Halberd Pursuivant (our Bryn Gwlad branch herald), who then
forwards them to the right people. Everybody is welcome to attend,
whether they know anything about heraldry or not. It's an excellent
opportunity to learn more about what makes good armory and plausible
names, how to document submissions, and various random heraldic and
onomastic facts. It's also the closest thing to a "heralds' guild
meeting" we do locally, so if you're interested in heraldry, it's the
best place to go to meet others who are.

The meeting is held at the Halberd Pursuivant's home. She's usually
happy to e-mail directions, but with her current difficulty, that may
not be possible. However, her phone number is in the Participants'
Registry, and she's previously stated her willingness to give
directions over the phone, as well. If you're too new to have a copy
of the Registry and want to attend, e-mail me off-list and I'll get you
the number.
