Ooo! Ooo! I remember that event. It was held over
Thanksgiving weekend, os we actually had most of three days to play.

That was fun. You had to wear your helm and carry
your sword... so I showed up wearing my fencing
mask and carrying a foil, while everybody else
was wearing a full helm and carrying a
broadsword. I didn't win (I'm a lousy runner) but it was still fun.

Yep. That was back in the days before formal
authorizations. If you wanted to be a fighter,
you put on some armor and headed out to the
field. (You *could* get some training in first,
but there weren't any rules on how much training
you needed before you could go out and fight.)
Qualifying lists were a way to make sure that the
fighters in the Coronet tourney on Saturday
actually had a clue what they were doing, before
embarrassing themselves in the formal tournament.

>Court of Honor

That one, as I recall, was based on the Courts of
Honor done before medieval tournaments. The
fighters' helms would be displayed
(http://visualiseur.bnf.fr/CadresFenetre?O=COMP-1&I=29&M=imageseule)
and if any lady had a complaint against a
fighter, his helm would be knocked down and he
would then have to defend his actions and/or be punished for them.

As I recall, the ladies made up some rather
spurious charges against *all* the fighters, so
all their helms were knocked over. Randall von
Nordlichwald throwing himself on the mercy of the
court was particularly amusing.
