Salut cozyns,
As Lady Emeline and Don Tivar have noted, marshalling on the chivalric battlefield is fun and exciting, but it's not for the timid or the weak. For those of you willing to take the chance, Ansteorra would certainly appreciate your service. Every non-combatant marshal we put on the field will likely free up a fighter--and some of those marshals are among our best fighters.
For those interested in authorizing as marshals for the chivalric field for Gulf Wars, I can provide the same service Don Christian has offered for the rapier marshals. See me Sunday or Tuesday at fighter practice. I'll tell you what you need to study (it's all contained in the Participant's Handbook--http://tinyurl.com/36kqpb --but I'll tell you what parts you don't need to know). When you're ready (by the following Tuesday, I hope), come see me again to be quizzed.
If you plan to marshal at Gulf Wars, you must have a marshalling staff, safety goggles (for battles that include combat archery). Marshalling staves can usually be loaned, but you should provide your own safety goggles (if you don't I can't guarantee there will be any spares). I would also strongly recommend leather work gloves, sturdy boots, groin protection, and a broad-brimmed hat.
Not meaning to put anyone on the spot, now, but if they're willing, the following local folks are also authorized to authorize:
Sir Gideon MacLeod
Sir Giotto di Giovanni
Centurion Tarquyn Gateslayer
Sir Corwin von Xanten
En Lyonel
