Hi all,
Caladin here...I was searching the web in answer to a question and
decided to pose it to everyone here,
Since we have a broad spectrum of both Club and Rapier fighters it's a
question Dear to both of us.
How do you train hand speed/reaction time?
What drills do you do?
What core essentials do you train?
For instance I watched a show about how West Point trains athletes, and
one of their maxims was
That your eyes are 200 times faster than your head, so they train
athletes to look with their eyes
Before moving the head.
To train this, they have a wall of buttons that light up. The Athlete
stands in front of it, with his/her
Eyes unfocused, and lights turn on randomly, then they must press the
button as fast as possible without
Moving their head.
Awesome exercise, but if you've ever priced those buttons ( I did when I
worked at the slot machine place )
It's not a cheap piece of equipment to build.
Here is the one I actually used to do a lot and am trying to relearn.
It's simple and cheap.
I flip a coin with my dominant hand, then reach out an catch it with my
hand palm out ( like I was doing the "right on brotha" hand gesture. )
Then when I feel confident in that, I start tapping my dominant hand in
the middle of my chest once, then catching the coin.
Then twice.
Then I tap my Right shoulder, then my left shoulder and catch it.
Each time I start getting comfortable I add a more complex maneuver
before catching the coin.
The next variant, is for reaction time, not hand speed, but it stings a
little.
Start with the same drill, but before you catch it, bounce it upwards
off the back of your hand to put a random
Direction on it. Then catch it palm out as before.
You can also do this with a super ball or a tennis ball (smaller is
harder)
So what does everyone else do?
