If you were to combine the 1948 Gene Kelly version with the 1973 and 
1974 Michael York version, it would actually represent the book 
pretty well. The '93 Disney version is fun to watch but "based on 
character names created by Alexandre Dumas" is about as close as it 
comes to the book.
