Did you know there's art work from our period right here in Austin? The collection isn't huge, but there are a number of good pieces from the 16th, 15th and even 14th centuries including a Durer engraving. The 14th and early 15th century paintings are particularly worth seeing in person because they have texture in the gold which would be hard to capture in a photograph. It might be a good field trip for the Companions of Da Vinci or the scribes.

They also have Greek and Roman sculpture, vases and coins which folks might want to see.
