Actually it is....
They were called intermettzi, mimes, pantomime, or masques and there may have been other names for it, but basically it was a dance/ theatre piece that involved music and possibly singing, but focused on the dancers telling a story and was very popular in European courts. This was the start of our modern day ballet. :) These started with the Greeks and never stopped.
