I have been aware of the SCA and other organizations like it . A group of my
friends played Dungeons & Dragons on friday nights and did amptgard and sca
functions on sundays, frequented different ren fairs, while I was in high
school. I rarely attended myself but was quite aware of the goings on of
such awesome things...
However one day i was minding my own business,
and all the sudden I was grabbed up by this ominous figure i was later told
his name was Gunvarrder a Viking. He carried me an my children away with
one hand ! He kept me in his tent in the land of Castelton. Told me in so
many words that I was to help his mother (Illaria ) run her bakery ( the
happy viking ). I did so , and she treated me ever so kindly clothing me
and my children , and showing me the ways of this strange land . I quickly
adapted to their ways . My loving mercenary husband, came looking for me,
after some time . I could see him coming down the road, however, he was
quickly and easily distracted with all the fighting on the fields, like a
child to a candy wagon . I looked fondly on, at him stowed away with my
captors, smiling with his obvious enjoyment at the sight. Since it seemed
that these vikings had been sorely misjudged , and that I was in no
immediate danger , i let him revel, not disrupting his fun with the wails
of a weak and feeble woman. I helped Illaria to the best of my ability and
success of her endeavor. My children played chess and were quite obviously
having a wondrous time themselves. I could see him wander around the local
vendors, becoming fast friends with this Gunvarrdar and several others.
Later that evening we were asked to dinner , to court and then to drink in
the local tavern . I was having a wondrous time. I even enjoyed a discussion
with the Baron himself ! . We ended the evening in a neighboring camp , with
Thunder Punch and much comedy stopping passers by to join in the fun.
I was hooked..........................
