[Bryn-gwlad] OT - Looking for Work

I just heard that the IRS is hiring here in Austin. The overall program
involves dealing with returns from outside the US but this is an entire
staff so it includes a lot of different sorts of jobs. This is a new project
for Austin so they have been hiring all the people they need to build this
new organization. I think pay starts around $30k but may be more for some
positions. The first first step in finding out about this would be to call
IRS-JOBS (477-5627) for a recorded message with some details and check out
http://usajobs.opm.gov/ for more specific job info. Be prepared to do some
digging to get useful info -- this is the government.

Benefits are good and the work is indoors. You can be very specific as to
which schedules you will accept but, of course, if the shift(s) you want are
already full they will move on to someone who has said they will accept the
shifts they have open. Once hired you would have a probation period, but
once past that you can apply for other jobs/schedules.

Some jobs are listed as "temporary". Avoid those. Some are listed as
"seasonal". That means they keep you so long as there is work and when work
reduces they lay off people based on performance number. When work increases
again next year, they call you back. However, some areas keep going all year
and never lay off seasonals. In other areas at least some work continues all
year so the best people stay. After your probation period ends you can apply
for permanent non-seasonal jobs. If the seasonal aspect just won't work for
you, only apply for permanent jobs.

Some of the things that WON'T come up on this job are unpaid overtime and
being forced to give up your holidays. They pay for your training and they
pay you while you train. They give you vacation time and sick leave. Some of
the work is kinda dull but there are far worse places to work. If the pay
looks decent to you, check it out.

Hope this helps.
