His Excellency mentioned:
"Master Eule sitting on his horse before the Roses of the Knowne World,
making the crowd catch its breath. At last count, HRM's Lancer won 2 of
the tourneys at the War for Ansteorra."
To which Eule offers:
Thank you very much Your Excellency. And as a reminder, I am *your*
Equestrian Champion as well! ;-)
This war was very good for Ansteorra and, especially, Bryn Gwlad. Yes,
indeed Ansteorra commanded the equestrian field by taking the Equestrian
war point! And, yes, I did win an equestrian tournament, or two...or
three... ;-)
Later in the week was the Equestrian Grand Tournament where Lucky and I
were honoured by the lady's gallery as the overall winner as well as
being named the Chivalric Champion.
Later that day, we participated in a Ground Crew course which consisted
of leading our mounts through a course on the ground. This was much
more challenging than we realized and everyone had a wonderful time.
Young Master Chretien and I will be stealing this idea from our Meridian
hosts! Lucky and I placed third in that competition.
On Friday, Sir Alexis (of Loch Sollier) and Master Terafan (from our
neighbors, Hell's Gate, to the north), competed in a jousting display
which was very well attended. Although I did not participate in the
actual lyst, I was asked to lead the display as the King of Arms. After
the normal course, Alexis and Terafan demonstrated our latest
experimental addition to jousting, wooden lance jousting (as opposed to
our current foam style), to the Society Earl Marshal and the Society
Equestrian Marshal. Rules are now being considered and safety
considerations being made to *possibly* consider this type of combat in
the future. If so, our rules will be in line with other international
jousting organizations so we may see additional cross over from these
other organizations within the SCA.
However, the most exciting part of the week for me was during the
Meridian Challange Tournament which was a timed and scored event.
During one particular part of our run, my noble steed and I were
cantering around in a large circle to gain a position for our run at the
rings when, suddenly, Lucky hit a soft patch in the dirt, lost his
footing and we fell and slid on our sides about 15 feet. We both
rolled, quickly stood up, shook off the dirt and while the marshalls
were rushing to see if we were ok I shouted "Someone hold my stirrup!
I'm not done yet!". Someone did, I remounted, cantered off, grabbed my
lance and successfully completed the rings course and raced through the
finish line. We won the tournament with the highest score and despite
our mishap, the fastest time.
A great time was had at the equestrian field and we look forward to Guld
Wars 18!
I LOVE MY HORSE!!!!
