Salvete!
Thank you all for the warm welcomes. I'm hoping that tomorrow night my wife and I will be able to come out to the Fighter Practice.
I do have a question though. While I was in California, I started laying plans for form a Roman reenactment legion, but it never got off the planning stages. Well since moving to Austin, I want to start up one, perhaps sometime in the next 6 months. My question is, what era would people be interested in? The legion I want to recreate is the Legio II Augusta/Britannica, a legion that was based in Britain from 43 CE to the very end of Roman rule there, and may have had members stay behind to help defend the isle from the Anglo-Saxons. My goal with the legion is education, but also to participate in combat, such as the SCA.
I know there is already an Iron Age celtic group, a 1st century Roman group, and even a viking age group that comes here from time to time. The times I'm looking at are the Mid-Roman (late 2nd century to mid 3rd century CE) and Late/Sub-Roman (early 5th to mid 6th century CE). Which era would people be most interested in?
All comments and suggestions are welcomed.
Valete,
M. Artorius
