Unto all who may peruse these presentations,
greetings and blessings of the day upon yourselves and your houses,
from Amr ibn Majid al-Bakri al-Amra!

QUICK SUMMARY: new Internet mailing list for the Central Region of
Ansteorra, y'all come visit!

SUBSCRIPTION INSTRUCTIONS:
send mail to Majordomo at Ansteorra.ORG
subject line irrelevant,
body of message equal "subscribe Central"

Intended coverage:
Events, concerns, and general discussions of interest to SCA members
in the Central Region of Ansteorra. As list administrator, I hope to
keep my need to use the heavy penalties available to a minimum
(essentially, miscreants will be warned and if facts warrant such
action, subsequently removed from the list & subjected to for public
pressures -- plus complaints will be filed to their ISP and other
mundane authorities, if circumstances are serious enough)

"DESCRIPTIVE ARTICLE" (I'll be writing a short announcement suitable
for regular branch newsletters in a few days, bear with me please):
For any who may not have heard yet, I am the chairperson for a
Committee exploring options and alternatives relating the Barony of
the Steppes to on-line communications and presence on the Web.
(According to some, that makes me Acting Deputy Chronicler for the
Steppes Internet Committee -- lousy job, strange hours,
couldn't-be-worse title, "great benefits"...)

One of the things mentioned and considered as appropriate /
immediately useful at the Steppes Internet Committee meeting on
12/7/97ce was to proceed with organizing a mailing list on-line.
After some discussion, I am advancing this Committee proposal as an
Internet maillist for the Central Region of Ansteorra, not just the
Barony of the Steppes. For now, I have agreed to provide such
moderation / support as is needed ("moderation" in FidoNet sense,
not Internet-style).

Informally, up to now I've personally been working from one list of
local SCAfolk for whom I have electronic addresses when sending
notices about the Committee and its meetings. (This notification is
going out to a super-set of that list, expanded to include others I
know to be involved in the Central Region.) I know that I
occasionally leave someone out due to one reason or another
(typically forgetfulness, or by handling mail from more than one
address).

By setting up a "formal" maillist, this will allow people to
subscribe, unsubscribe, and such under their own power -- and
increases the reliability of and utility of general on-line
communications in the Central Region. This will allow general
discussions and various announcements to be made in a more timely
and better-targetted fashion.

There was a concensus of the Committee that this will be a good
thing. I've verified with Averial that there are no big alarms being
set off among her concerns as Seneschal of Steppes. I've spoken with
the Central Regional Chronicler, just to make sure we wouldn't be
infringing there. The Kingdom Virtual Scribe has arranged to allow
us to work this list through ansteorra.org.

Note that Galen of Bristol is doing the footwork for an
Elfsea-specific list, which should also be active within the next
day or so.

I will make a streamlined version of this announcement on the
Ansteorran mailing list. Copy elsewhere as you may deem appropriate.
(Use good sense and try not to flood *everywhere*, please).

Let's give it a go, and review the value and utility in a few months.
