A good question and one that Duke Cariadoc has been proposing for years. My one
worry would be that since we already have Dukes there will be the usual confusion
(are you a Crown Duke or a Landed Duke or a formerly landed Duke?) as with the
Barons. Also, how would this leader be chosen? By combat, ala Principality, or
elected by the populace as in Baronies?

I personally don't feel that Principalities are all that bad or non-period.

Hey, how about we just give the land and leadership to currently existing Dukes!?
That would solve a lot of our problems and keep them busy!

Okay, I'm being a little silly. But thanks for coming up with alternatives and I
suggest you look up Duke Cariadoc's web page and his discussion of Duchies.

Also, wouldn't it be keen if the Crown granted lands to the outgoing Royalty?
Calling up someone and not only granting them the rank of Count but also announcing
they will recieve the (made up) lands of Herferdshire to Rottelpom.
