You should say no when you don't expect to find the work rewarding,
somehow.  You should say no when you're exhausted.  You should say
no when other priorities require your attention. 

The farther in advance you say no to an autocrat, the better.  That
gives us a chance to make other arrangements.

This is a volunteer organization.  Just because you've volunteered
before doesn't obligate you to volunteer everytime.

Thanks for all your good work, and we'll look forward to seeing
your work at future events; when you're ready.
