That depends entirely on what position it's in.  
The default position for an owl is facing forward.
If its wings are folded in, that would be an
owl "close".  If it wings are spread, like the
eagle on the U.S. Great Seal, that would be an
owl "displayed".  Sorry, I don't have a good
picture of an owl.
