Greetings! There are some of you who have had more detailed questions
about the Burn Ban at Gothic. #1. Yes, Nolan County is under a Burn Ban.
I double-checked an hour ago and this came straight from the Fire
Marshal of Sweetwater, Texas. #2. West Texas is EXTREMELY dry; the grass
is dry, the trees are dry, everything is hot and dry. #3. If you have a
grill you'll be cooking on, please make certain you have some means (
waterhose, extinguisher, a bucket of water, a bag of sand) of putting
out a fire if some rogue ashes set fire to your camp, or your neighbor's
camp etc....all coals must be completely out before
disposing........folks, a little common sense and some caution will go a
long way in keeping us all safe this weekend.

I'm going to err on the side of caution: my original post stands. If
anyone drives by (sheriff, Vol.Fire Dept., Park official etc.) and they
have no problem with whatever you have going, then no sweat! If they
have a problem, my back is covered!

Park officials are also worried about someone parking in high grass; the
place is well mowed, but if there are spots with any degree of tall,
dry, yellow grass, don't park there! Catalytic converters can make a
mess of your vehicle and our park.

Forecasts for Gothic weekend are slight chance of showers, temps in the
low to mid-90's, cooler if we get rain, S to SE winds of 10-20 mph.

In service,
