I always heard that the etomology of "berserk" was that it came
from "bear-sark", which referred to a shirts of bear-skin, which
was all the armor that the berserkers wore, while their fellows
were wearing mail.

Sir Galen.... yes yes yes... I just found this very informative web 
site... what they said was 
" After consuming a bucket or two of vibrant brew they called aul, or 
ale, the Vikings would head fearlessly into battle often without armor 
or even shirts. In fact, the term "berserk" means "bare shirt" in Norse, 
and eventually took on the meaning of their wild battles."

Just thougght I'd pass it on... yes pretty basic but Fun!
