Thanks for the good thoughts, everybody.
I took a nap, a bunch of vitamins, extra St. John's Wort, some chocolate, and feel a bit better.

Unfortunately, I more than blew our budget for a dog, so I will have to wait awhile. I have checked into the dog rescue societies - The dachshund one charges $100 - $200.  I am waiting for a call back from the Rat Terrier one. I'll keep checking the newspaper.

If anything, this has taught Anthony a lesson about pet responsibility and patience.  And it has taught me to listen to my own better judgement, and not to a little boy begging me for a new pet.

Oh, well, Stuff happens. Nobody is perfect. And life goes on :).
