Typicly the Masqurade Balls People would not be wearing Black. They 
would be wearing there very best. The object of the celebration would be 
to take their mind off the plauge, colors of Mourning for one would be a 
reminder of it, and 2 I don't think black was the Mourning type Norm but 
I have to check that one. I believe Black for mourning is a post period 
custom.
