I'm afraid the rules are set in stone. They have already been advertised
in YOUR BLACKSTAR! But for those of you who are Blackstar unabled here
is what appeared in the April issue on the page next to the ELSFEA AD:
Consort's Ransom Tournament - at Elfsea's Springfaire
In days long gone by, when kings were great and princes were
charming, there was a custom of keeping captured nobles hostage, such as
the
King of Germany did to Richard Couer de Leon. Such men were treated
with
great respect and even reverence, given many privileges, plenty of food
and
entertainment, but not their freedom, until such time as a ransom could
be paid
to those who held the lord hostage.
In this great tradition we do present the Consort's Ransom Tournament.
In this tourney, when you fight for your lady's (or lord's) honor, you
are also
defending her liberty.
The consorts shall all be considered "gently born" and worthy of great
ransom. The champions shall face each other in great battle and the
victor shall
become responsible for the proper care and guarding of the slain
warrior's
consort. Entertainment and refreshment ought to be provided for these
consorts.
Consorts ought to have gifts to present to their champions, and flowery
speeches to best inspire their protectors to fight well and defend their
honor and
liberty. The Victor of the List will be the champion with the most
captiv'd
consorts and shall be given the right to choose the Queen of Love and
Beauty of
the tournament. The warriors shall choose the Most Inspiring Consort,
based on
how they perceive each consort behaving toward her (or his) defender.
And of
course the consorts shall choose the Best Host from among the fighters.
The specific rules for the tourney are as follows:
1. To enter the list, Combatants must bring a consort.
2. Combatants will put their consort's name into a "hat", they will be
"shuffled"
and combatants will draw a consort's name from the "hat." They may not
draw
their own consort(s), if so, they must put the name back into the "hat"
and
redraw.
3. Combatants will fight at least two fights per round: the fight to
keep their own
consorts(s) and to take the one they've drawn.
4. Combatants are eliminated when they have no more consorts to sponsor
them.
5. Consorts ought to be present to attend their champions.
6. Combatants should provide refreshment and entertainment to all the
consorts
they win in the tournament.
7. The winner of the tournament will be the combatant with the most
consorts.
8. The winner of the list will decide the Queen of Love and Beauty.
9. The Consorts will decide on the best host of the day.
10. The Combatants will decide on the most attentive lady at the
tournament.
