I have found that large plastic cable ties (the ones used for
installing A/C ductwork) are very comfortable and durable,
and they don't rust.  The ends can be heated to melt away
sharp edges.  I got mine from Home Depot at a very
reasonable price.  A leather vest I made with steel boning
is about to be redone using the plastic cable ties.  It just
depends on how 'authentic' you want your corset.
