While a PA system would make it easier to hear, but agree that
it's not period.  Pictures of coronation with a "mike" stuck in
someone's face would be about as bad a picture of knights in
a melee with cars and trucks in the background.  PPPLLLLTTT!!

Actually, it's not so much that we can't hear the court, it's that
we can't hear court over the din of noise of the audience who
evidently lack respect for the Crown and the people around them.
I agreee that noise from the children is a problem, too; however,
it's up to (adult) parents to teach their children to be quiet and
respectful, hopefully by example.

In short, a healthy respect for the Crown (and perhaps 'enforcers'
throughout the hall - in lieu of heralds) would be much more
period than a PA system.

Just another bit of food for thought.
