ES - Heraldic Display in Elfsea

Naughty herald, Go to the blackboard and write 100 times, 'I will not
encourage non-period display of heraldry'.

Seriously, having the whole achievement (shield, supporters, motto, crest,
coronet, helm, etc.) on a banner is out of period, though just barely. If
we want a banner, the supporters were often painted or carved into either
the banner stand or the finial at the end of the staff. There are period
precedents for adding a baronial coronet to the banner of a Barony, but I
don't know exactly how it was done. If we want pennons to go with it we
could use a long tailed flag with the Ansteorran star on gold next to the
staff and the rest of the flag would display the motto and badges of Elfsea.
It would be a nice touch to add badges for Dragonsfire Tor, Loch Ruadh, and
Three Bridges.

So if we wanted a fancy display during court we would have the supporters
supporting the arms of Elfsea, with the Baronial coronet added to the arms.
The banner could be flanked by both smaller banners for the cantons, and by
spears or pikes bearing Elfsea Pennons.

We could give out before the event (or right at the gate) Elfsea badges. If
fabric these could be sewn or pinned to garb. If solid clipped on or
suspended on string or thread.

We could make a nice display simply by arranging to try and wear the
baronial livery colors to court. 100 people wearing blue and silver/white
would be impressive.

Have we asked visiting groups and nobles to bring their banners?

I am going to forward the questions about adding the baronial coronet to the
banner, and adding canton badges to the pennon onto the Ansteorran Heralds'
list for commentary.

I like the idea of officer baldrics.
