There's a lot of little things we all can do to bring more more life into
every event.  Address people in a manner appropriate to your persona.

activities.  If spear and round shield is what you would have fought with do
so.  You may have fewer victories but you'll have more fun and more friends.
Learn to sign your persona name in a script that you would have known (or
learn how an illiterate person would mark).  If the king was an absolute
ruler for life in your milieu (Japan for instance) treat the royalty that
way.  If, like me, you're a very early Celt, treat the queen with great
respect, and the king as the guy she's currently with.  Look into the music
and dance of your nationality.  You might like it, you might not.

Bottom line, spend less time in the current middle ages and more time in the
real middle ages.  All you really have to do is look around and notice who
you enjoy being with.  Chances are they're the ones enjoying themselves.
