ES - Persona Play

Greetings, Elfsea!

I love persona play. I just don't do it enough. Some of my best memories of the SCA were early in my SCA "career." My first event was Defender 3 years ago, the event at which Xene and Llwellyn became Baron and Baronness. I became Xene's first Lady-in-Waiting at that event, and I loved the persona play that went on when they were invested. I learned what it was like to be a true lady-in-waiting at that event. Xene makes it very easy to become part of the middle ages. I have also watched newcomers at House Silver Moon's camp (my camp) feel the dream as the campfire burned low, late at night, while Lady Caristiona nic Laren and I sang songs of the glory of Ansteorra, songs of the wiles of Ansteorran women (and their blades), and songs of victory and death.
Elfsea, don't forget _who_ you are. When I set foot on a site, I _become_ Lady Genevieve de la Gamba, lady-in-waiting to a Baronness, Fourth Artisan of Dragonsfire Tor, and a Lady of the kingdom of Ansteorra. I leave my mundane life at home. When I leave, I revert back to Sue Dittrich, stressed out dental student from Dallas. Remember what we're trying to recreate. Please don't sit in Court and talk (this would NOT have been tolerated in period and it's just plain rude), remember how ladies and gentlemen should act according to your period (eg the note about being an early Celt and having more respect for the Queen than "that other guy"... <wink>), and do your best to recreate your time period. I know it's not always feasible (especially financially), but let's try to conceal our Coleman tents and make our camps more period. I'm not asking everyone to become authenticity mavens, but let's try to do some recreating, not just run around a campsite in costumes.

Thanks for letting me say my peace (piece?),

Lady Genevieve de la Gamba
Fourth Artisan of Dragonsfire Tor
Former Rapier Guardian of Dragonsfire Tor
Matron, House Silver Moon
