Subject: Bonwicke's Twelfth Night Ransom Tourney
Date: Tue, Jan 18, 2000, 3:48 PM

I have just received a very nicely painted document (complete with wax seal)
from the Barony of Bonwicke
concerning their Twelfth Night Ransom Tourney to be
held Saturday, January 22, AS XXXIV (2000) with a
tourney and feast.

Rules of the List (almost exactly as given to me)

1. Fighters will be allowed to divide themselves up into
teams as they fit. This may also be done in advance of the
tourney. Fighters from the same Barony or Shire may fight
together and personal allegiances (Squires fighting with
their Knights) will be honored.

2. Each fighter will be given gold coin based on rank.
10 for a knight, 5 for a squire, 3 for anyone else.
(Caelin comment - although knighthood might be considered
a "rank" and those who have earned the title should be
given the respect it deserves, being a squire to a
knight is a relationship between them and not a "rank").

3. The fighting will take place on an open field and will
last for several hours. An area normally used as a list
field will be used as a retreat or an area of rest during
the tourney. The list Mistress will also be located within
the retreat. Fighters may enter and leave the field as
they see fit mixing single and melee combat using any
weapons styles.

4. Any fighter who is defeated or who is wounded and offers
to yield is held to be subdued; once subdued a fighter
is to follow his captor, standing in place while his
captor is not leading him back to the retreat where the
exchange in ransom takes place.

5. Once a captive is successfully returned to the retreat,
his ransom is delivered to his captor, 1 gold coin. The
list mistress oversees the transfer of coin on the
checkerboard. Once paid the fighters are free to return
to the field to seek other combat.

6. Once a fighters coin is expended they may purchase more
coin form the lists for the donation of an honorable
charity (namely the Baronial largess chest, so bring
largess!) 3-5 coins will be given per donation. If a
fighter cannot make a personal donation he may still
continue to fight but must fight for the side that
captured him unless his team pays his ransom.

At the end of the day a table will be brought forth
with prizes, the fighter having the most coin gets
first pick of the prizes, the other fighters will get
to choose in the order of the size of their hoards until
the prizes are exhausted. Any ties in the sizes of hoards
will be broken by a dual (sic) using single swords.
Any donations for additional prizes will be greatly
appreciated.

Once having read these rules and you should have any
questions regarding them please contact your Master of
the Lists Lord Jasper Codrington aka: Kevin Womack
