I love it!

And we could have food hackers moving among the crowd, trying to sell their wares and ... dare I say it

a murder

Think of it.  Someone (unknown until the very moment [I'll work out the details if this goes through]), perhaps a minor noble or a merchant is killed in the midst of people watching a tournament. 

Who did it?

While the rest of the fighting is going on, people watch their backs ... wondering if they might be next or if there was a grudge or a quarrel between two people.

And then, at court, the sheriff [if we can think about appointing one -- every barony in period had one and that wasn't the reeve] along with a cloistered brother can then produce the murderer ...

ONE MAJOR NOTE:  This will be a planned event, not something that people can take to heart and go killing those they don't like, but it will take the approval of those in charge.
