ES - Gulf War Kitchens

Hi there, all. Catrin here. My initial ante, if you please, on the GW
kitchen idea:

1. Terrific concept. We are all for it. Count Steppes in.

2. Having had the pleasure of running logistics for a few large
kitchens, I submit that with proper planning and communication, it IS
possible for several "cells" of folks to use a common kitchen. The key
is whittling down all the volunteered gear to what will really be
needed, keeping a good roster of what belongs to whom ( and marking
it!), preparing a central pack-and-load station, and having a person in
charge of keeping the inventory straight. This would eliminate everyone
bringing twelve sets of the same thing, and lighten the travelling
burden all around. It would also free up a lot of room for more
camping space! :) I propose we investigate the possibility of the
baronies pooling some money to rent a group-use hauling vehicle(s) for
the community gear.....

2. The Steppes is happy to provide its pavilion for whatever use is
best for it. It is 18' x24' with one long wall. We are also happy to
provide the baronial kitchen equipment, which is considerable. Also, we
have twenty 6' plastic banquet tables available. I really believe we
can significantly simplify the equipment issue.

3. Here's a lob shot: On a significantly smaller scale, we have had
success at signing people up to eat meals ahead of time, and
contributing, ahead of time, a preset non-refundable amount of money per
meal.to pay for their meals. There could be meal tokens...that way,
each cell would know ahead of time how many they were feeding, and could
pull from a pool of money to buy the food....it would be good to plan
for a few extra so we could be hospitable.

4. I am willing to be part of a central committee for planning these
things, and to recruit coordinate and communicate with said cells. And
whatever else......

This is a very excititng idea, I am so glad there is interest in doing
this! Vivat Central Region!

In service,

Catrin
Steppes
