Greetings!
Following is the revised event announcement--sorry, we had trouble
getting our machines to cooperate. Hope to see many of you there!
Greetings onto you, friends and neighbors, from Agilwulf the Loud;
I am writing to tell you about the greatest event this year (we only
tell this to our closest friends and rivals!). It is the Fourth Annual
Steppes Fall Court! Where and when, you ask? The event will be at camp
Burnet in South Lake. (A map and written directions will be posted
soon). The site will open Friday; October 6, 2000 at noon and close
Sunday; October 8, 2000 at noon. Feast will be Saturday evening, and
will consist of your most exquisite dishes. Yes, it is a Potluck
Feast! So that duplicate dishes are kept to a minimum, please contact
our food coordinator, HL Suzanna the Herbalist at (214) 351-3907 or
wjwakefield at juno.com. The sooner you contact her, the better. We hope
everyone will bring something, and please take this opportunity to try
out your favorite period recipe! The Steppes is providing succulent
meats for your dining pleasure, prepared by the gracious Thegn Sir
Duncan Arthur Ross.
Activities will include: Melee war practice (including combat archery
and siege weapons); classes on the 100 Years War by Master Tadgh, melee
tactics by Ld Hosea and the Fray, and combat archery by Don Sebastian.
Mistress Kalida will be sponsoring an art and science competition, and
the Equestrian Guild will host a Central Regional equestrian practice.
You may bring your horses for the weekend! There will be a bardic
fire, and all bards and would-be bards are invited to work up your best
piece for our amusement. No childrens activities have been scheduled
at this time, but we welcome volunteers to help out in teaching and
entertaining our children. We challenge you to use your creativity to
suggest and implement other FUN and/or different activities during the
weekend. We especially would like to have a class on persona
development, some unusual period games (not necessarily board games) and
any other topics that particularly relate to our preparation for Three
Kings in November. However, any activity will be welcomed. At this
event, Their Excellencies will be reinstating the Steppes Baronial
Guard. Former members of the Guard are invited to attend this ceremony,
and all who ould serve the Barony in this capacity are encouraged to
make their desire known to HE Fritz or HE Catrin.
Some specifics about the site: The site is primitive, with no
electricity. There will be two low cost (unheated) showers, and two
flush toilets. Port-a-lets will be provided as well. If you want
hot/warm showers bring a solar shower. A method of hanging a solar
shower will be provided in the low cost shower. There is the
possibility of a burn ban being in place because of the drought
conditions being experienced. This information will be posted at gate.
Those who smoke are asked to be extra-vigilant about disposal of smoking
materials. This site is wheelchair difficult, but not impossible.
There will be waiver forms at gate as well as a sign up list, but NO
TOKENS OR SITE FEES!!!!! We are asking early arrivals (noon-? Friday)
to help with a quick pick-up before the event starts and possibly to
assist with set up.
We still need volunteers for: gate, security, camp heralds, feast help,
setup, tear down and clean up. If you would like to help in these
efforts, please call (no later than 8:30 PM) at (214) 351-3907 or email
me at walterw at airmail.net. Indicate which area or areas you are
volunteering for, and include a phone number or email address. Thank
you.
The Honor is to serve.
Agilwulf the Loud
