[Elfsea] Rumors of forthcoming bid for Baronial Hats

Baron Galen, you forgot a few things.

1) Being Baron and Baroness takes an incredible amount of time - a most
precious commodity.  Be prepared to spend most weekends going to or
preparing to go to events.  During the week, you can end up spending a lot
of time on the phone or doing e-mail. It will take time away from your
family outside of the SCA.

2)Having a house with a garage to hold the extra stuff that you don't keep
in the Baronial shed is a necessity.

3) Having a reliable vehicle that can carry a lot of stuff is also a
necessity.

4)The financial cost of attending events really adds up - even when the gate
fees are covered at Baronial events.  The usual events that are pretty
important for a B & B are Coronation, Crown Tournament, Gulf War, and any
Baronial Investiture. The last six months, this was almost every other
weekend.

Largesse is also an expense that must be budgeted for out of the pockets of
the B & B, unless the members donate regularly and well. To be a good
representative of the Barony, new costumes must be made semi-annually (at
least).

This is not to scare anyone, but to open your eyes to the seen and unseen
costs of this position.  There are emotional costs as well, but those are
harder to define, as they are different for everyone who wears the Coronets.
