ES - Children at events

First, I think we need to have supervised activities for younger kids
(2-5years).  Puppet shows, story hour, crafts.  My 3year old goes to
preschool and she can do lots of neat crafts.  Having a toy chest is great,
but we have to have adults around to help out.

Second, I like the idea of volunteering an hour if you put your children in
CA.  I would be happy to spend an hour at the children's area as long as I
can get some time away from kids.  I have taught simple beadwork classes to
children as young as 3.  I can also read a story or 2.  I think this is a
fair deal and should be tried again.

Third, Event announcements need to be more detailed.  Recently, I have not
been aware ofthe site's rules or the availability of children's activities
because the only way to get the information is to attend moot or call the
autocrat.  Putting the information in the scroll and on the website would
be helpful.

Fourth, the idea of taking on a page is a great idea.  I would take one on
if I had the free hours away from my smalls.  Maybe a swop could be
arranged.  I teach the page and he/she helps me with my kids.  BTW, I have
on a couple of occasions hired one of the teens to watch my kids.  I have
either paid them in money or in garb or in beads.  That person has always
received a heartfelt thanks.  Since I have no family here in Texas, I have
nobody to leave my little ones with.

My last note is: parents we are responsible for our kids.  We have no right
to dump them on someone else for a period of time without a thank you or
the courtesy of knowing the rules.  If we plan to participate in a
competition or teach a class, we need to make arrangements to have someone
watch our smalls and then be responsible enough to share in the babysitting
and to say thank you.

I belong to a MOMS club.  We have a system we call Sunshine.  If I need
someone to watch my kids for a few hours or a whole day, then I need to
make myself available to return the favor.  It works well in our group.  We
need to try make it work in the Barony.
