Many of the awards given out in the SCA, the AoA included, are given because someone has taken the time and effort to write a recommendation to Their Royal Majesties to let them know that <insert trumpet fanfare here> SOMEONE HAS DONE SOMETHING. Hopefully a positive something, and more than just a one time occurance. Efforts that add to our Society and service to the Society should be recognized, but how can that happen unless those who have observed the efforts and the service speak up by way of a recommendation? Ansteorra is a large Kingdom; our Kings and Queens are not all-seeing, and need to be informed of those who deserve recognition. Also, the Seneschal of the group of the person being recommended should get a copy of the recommendation, as should the Baron and Baroness if the group is a Barony or a Canton or College under a Barony.

So who makes sure someone gets an award? YOU DO! Recommendation for Award forms are available on the Kingdom website at www.ansteorra.org . Or if anyone would like more information on what awards are available, what they are for, and how to recommend someone, email me privately at padraig_ruad at irishbard.com and I will send you the article I wrote for Loch Ruadh's newsletter on the subject.
