Galen here...
Of my many honors in the SCA, I most highly prize the
awards I've received recognizing my service to my local
branches, notably the Order of the Azure Keystone of
Elfsea, and the Order of the Dreigiau Bryn of Bryn
Gwlad. I have seen many peers and nobles who, having
gone on to kingdom-level recognition, never seem to
make time to do much with their local branches.
In Bryn Gwlad (Austin), where I lived for eight years,
the barony's service level is the Order of the Dreigiau
Bryn of Bryn Gwlad. The first recipient of this Order
was Lord Martin Hart of Wells. Martin was a highly
effective seneschal, good at coordinating the efforts
and conflicting agendas of the many factions and
cliques extant in the barony at the time. He developed
the invaluable skill of telling the peers and nobles he
worked with "no" (including me), while maintaining
their friendship and cooperation.
He was a hard worker, a skilled rapier fighter, a wise
counsellor, and a good friend to many.
He was also the finest dungeon master I ever played
Dungeons & Dragons with, and I spent many hours of
enjoyment facing the dangers and challenges he posed.
I am grateful that I was able to visit Martin one last
time, this past Saturday morning. He seemed to me
lucid, if weak, and in remarkably good spirits. His
lady wife, in her loving and solicitous care of him,
seemed to me nothing less than heroic.
Martin and his family remain in my prayers, as I hope
they will in all of yours.

It is my sad duty and honor to report the passing of
Lord Martin Hart of
Wells (Lindsay J. Hart) in the Barony of Bryn Gwlad
today after a battle
with cancer. He is now out of pain and at peace. His
lady and family wish to
thank everyone for their prayers, gestures of kindness
and support. A
memorial service is planned for Saturday, February
10th. I do not have the
time and location as yet, but will post that
information as it becomes
available.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer
Society or Austin
Hospice Christopher House are requested.
A fund has been established to help defray expenses to
the family:

For my friend Martin,
Lord Duncan MacConacher of Dunheath
