[Elfsea] Seminary South Demo?

Greetings from Madelina de Lyndesaye!

I was running a bit late last night due to having to take Logan to the
garage to pick up the new van -- now inspected, smog-pumped,
new-carburetored, etc., but decided to drop by the library to see how things
were going at the demo.  Guess what -- I WAS the demo!

I took my new (to me) lute, which I won on eBay, that had just arrived in
the mail yesterday, and a soprano recorder (cheapy plastic, but just to give
the kids an idea of what they are like).  My daughter, Brighid, donned her
kilt and came along with me.

I got there at 7:15 p.m.  The librarian was so glad to see me, as no one had
shown up!  She played some background music, and I talked a bit about
medieval/Renaissance music, the feudal system, and guilds.  Then I took
questions from the mostly under 10 crowd.  Some of the boys got to talking
about the computer games "Age of Empires" and "Age of Kings", so that
prompted a short discussion on history, but the boys were adamant about
talking about the game instead.

The kids did seem to enjoy seeing the lute, and did ask many astute
questions about history, but they got to talking about the computer games
again, so after talking about 45 mins, I yielded the floor.

I did give the URL for the SCA to the librarian; should anyone be interested
in more info, she will pass it on.  Also, she mentioned that she tried
calling the various phone numbers that had been left with her as contacts,
and all were no longer working numbers.  If anyone wants to keep in contact
with the Seminary South branch library for future demos, it might be a good
idea to update your contact information with them.

For not having prepared any handouts or other info, I think I did okay, just
going by the seat of my pants.  If anyone wants specific information about
the information I presented, feel free to contact me.

Hello all,

Maria has been under the weather the last few days, been pretty much
bedridden sense Monday (she's just now feeling like walking around the
house) and I have been too busy taking care of her and the kids to remember
what week it was.  I do apologize about this incident, hopefully this won't
hurt our relationship with these people.
