well it certainly apears to be a chainlink fence althoug it is not a
tennis court. ;o)
My guess would be a court for shuttle cock (ancestor of badmiton) or
lawn bowling. Tennis was played in enclosed courts with galleries aound
them, and the balls were filled usually with human hair hence very
little bounce.
