Chivalry, ......What does this mean to you?

Ok my turn, ..... What a lot of wonderful responses to this question.
My idea of Chivalry is Honor, Loyalty, Kindness, Courtesy, offering someone
a hand,
be they male or female, if you see that they could use a bit of assistance,
or just because it would be a nice thing to do. I myself am a not a weak
woman, and am quite used to doing things myself, but you know it just can
make your day, to have a good gentle offer to help you carry your chair, or
what ever your burden might be at the time. Or ladies to assist a fighter,
who is weary from the list, with his armor and drink.
And then there is the just lending a hand when you see someone, especially a
lady doing a task, that would be much easier if she had a bit of assistance.
I also feel Chivalry is about respect, and acknowledging a persons place, or
rank, especially when in the presence of others. And yes, I also feel
Chivalry is as HE Galen Said, Martial prowess.

I also feel Chivalry should be exhibited by ALL people, and especially by
our Peers, who we look to for an example..
It is by example that we can teach others.

The reason I posted the this question is that when I first joined SCA quite
a few years ago, I fell in love with this Society and the courteous, and
chivalrous deeds I saw displayed time and time again. I just don't seem them
as much as I had in years gone bye.
As most of you know I play alone, (my lord husband does not participate) And
yes it was very nice to have assistance when I needed it and very seldom
have to ask, and then to help others in turn. I'm not saying that I don't
see acts of chivalry any more, as chivalry is in many forms, but it is the
helping hand part "during" the events, that tends to get over looked a bit.
I know I may not fit the prefect ideal of chivalry myself,
but I do try to lend a hand when I see some one who might could use one.
I feel we should all try a bit harder to think about our fellow man or
woman.
I would love to see some of the old magic come alive again.

Just my 2 cents worth.
Thank you for the wonderful responses.

Yours In Service,
HL Tanwyn Aniera
