Kingmaker is a game made by Avalon Hill (no defunct) that is a strategic re-creation of the War of the Roses.  Players control factions of nobles who in turn try to control Heirs to the throne of England.  Your goal is to control all of the (surviving) heirs of any given line (Lancaster or York) and kill the heirs of the other line, hence making yourself Sole King.

The name of the game comes from the 'title' given the Earl of Warwick during the War of the Roses.  He controlled many men, and much political power, and flip-flopped his support several times during the War.  In the end, his support made the difference, hence he was the 'Kingmaker'.

There are a group of us (Llywelyn, Crandall, Seamus, Raimond, Anthony, Galen [while he was here], Caelin and others) who greatly enjoy the game.  It is wonderful, but tends to run between 4-6 hours and is a great way to spend an afternoon with friends.  Simple to learn, complex to master.
