Because the Baron and Baroness are uniquely empowered, through the belief of the populace that allows them to wear the coronet, to create The Dream for those around them.

To go to a field in Mississippi and setup a tent and put on leather and steel and hit people with sticks beside someone you've known for several years is nothing.

To go to War against the scourge of Trimaris, to setup your pavilion and strap on your armor and battle against the enemy at the side of your Baron, or King. That is the magic of The Dream.

To go to a field and listen to a loud guy read from papers is boring.

To go to the court of your Baron and Baroness, and watch your friend recieve their Award of Arms is magic. (more for some than others)

The Baron and Baroness are one of the most unique positions within the Society. The 'rights' granted them in Law are nearly non-existant. But they can guide and rule because their populace believes that they ARE their Baron and Baroness.

I've knelt before King Alaric and Queen Kayleigh and recieved a Sable Thistle, I've knelt before Baron Galen and Baroness Allessandre to recieve my Sable Crane, and I've knelt before King Barn and Queen Catrionna to recieve my Award of Arms. I have felt that magic, and I want to be Baron so I can create it for my friends, and the friends I've yet to meet.
