This could easily be something to try. I wouldn't try it at someone else's event though. If we do some experimenting to see how close a quarters we can use for shooting combat arrows then it would have to be done at an SCA event where there are no mundanes and we can control the situation much better.
I honestly am not sure it would work at all well. I see holes being poked into unarmored things with the bounce back issue. Our APDs are designed not to penetrate helms but Things like unarmored mundanes and *ahem* pavillion walls might not like things being forced half an inch into them.
