[Elfsea] A presence Scarborough Faire

Regarding Isis and her booth at the faire......the last I heard; (and this
could have changed), last year her performing troupe was not offered a
contract to dance on the stage with a regular schedule as they had been for
the last 20 years. This was very disappointing as what they seemed to want
was for her dancers to perform for free. As all performing artists know,
getting paid for your craft is very difficult and usually only ends up being
a stipend. It is a constant struggle. I know that Isis maintained her
vending booth and she has a small stage right next to it that had previously
been used for her "student" performers and the professionals were in the
regularly scheduled performances on the stage. What she had planned to do
the last time I spoke with her about it was to have some smaller
performances on that stage to encourage business in her booth. I
discouraged this as I felt that they would not be motivated to offer a
contract the next year if they still had dancers at no cost to them. I'm
not sure how it turned out but I would be most willing to be a contact to
discuss this with her to insure that we have a good relationship with all
vendors at the faire. I am sure she will be most appreciative of a
conversation before hand and will give us a welcoming attitude.
